SIKA Sikafloor-1590 30 kg – fast-curing epoxy primer, even with residual moisture

Sikafloor-1590 is a 2-component, low-odor, and fast-curing epoxy resin primer and scratch coat for floor coverings. It can be recoated after approx. 3 hours at +23 °C and can be applied at temperatures as low as +8 °C.

Sikafloor-1590 is particularly strong on difficult substrates: it is suitable for concrete and cement screeds with increased residual moisture, for areas at risk of moisture from beneath, and for oil-contaminated substrates after appropriate cleaning.

Scope of delivery: 30 kg container (component A 25.5 kg + component B 4.5 kg).

Consumption

• Primer (residual moisture ≤ 4 CM-%): 1–2 layers at 0.35–0.55 kg/m²
• Increased residual moisture (4–6 CM-%): 1st coat 0.35–0.55 kg/m² + 2nd coat min. 0.30 kg/m²
• Oil-contaminated substrates: approx. 0.50 kg/m² after cleaning
• Scratch coat (< 1 mm): 1 part resin + 0.5 parts quartz sand 0.06–0.3 mm, approx. 1.7 kg/m² per mm
• Levelling (1–2 mm): 1 part resin + 1 part quartz sand 0.06–0.3 mm, approx. 1.9 kg/m² per mm

A 30 kg container is sufficient as a simple primer at approx. 0.45 kg/m² for around 65 m².

Application of Sikafloor-1590

1. Preparing the substrate

The substrate must be dry, clean, free of grease and oil, as well as free of cement laitance and loose particles (compressive strength min. 25 N/mm², adhesive pull strength min. 1.5 N/mm²). In case of increased residual moisture, risk of moisture from beneath, or oil contamination, shot blasting with a surface roughness of at least 0.5 mm is required.

2. Mixing

Mix component A, add component B, and mix for 2–3 minutes with a cage stirrer (300–400 rpm), e.g., in a mixing bucket. If necessary, add quartz sand or booster and mix for another 2 minutes.

3. Priming

Apply evenly with a roller, squeegee, or rubber blade, e.g., using a rubber squeegee and back-rolling with a short-pile roller. Apply a second primer coat in cases of increased residual moisture.

4. Optional acceleration

2–4 wt.% Sikafloor-54 Booster further shortens the waiting time. At higher temperatures, add a maximum of 2%; 4% is not recommended above +15 °C.

5. Further coating

After the waiting time, proceed with the floor coating, e.g., with Sikafloor-2600. Protect freshly primed surfaces from steam, condensation, and water for at least 24 hours.
